Delete your account

How to request the deletion of your account in a community in My Account › Privacy, the effective date (30 days or the end of the paid period), what happens until then, how to cancel, and what goes and what stays.

You can ask the community to forget you: your account is deleted on a set date, with time to change your mind, and after that nothing links your name to what you did there.

What it is for

To leave a community and take your data with you. Leaving or being removed takes you out of the community, but your profile is kept; deletion erases what is only yours and takes your name off everything that stays.

How it works

One community at a time

The deletion applies only to the community where you request it. In the other Memberfy communities you belong to, nothing changes: to leave them too, request it in each one.

Where it is

In My Account › Privacy, at the end of the page, the Delete my account card ("Deletes your account in this community. You have 30 days to change your mind.") lists what happens and has the Delete my account button.

The request

Clicking Delete my account opens the "Delete my account?" window, which asks for your password ("Enter your password to confirm. You will get an e-mail with the date and a link to change your mind."). You confirm with your password and may, if you want, give a reason (up to 1,000 characters) so the community understands why you left. The request never depends on the community's approval.

Who cannot request it:

  • The owner, while the community exists: the button is turned off, with "As the owner, you cannot delete your account while the community exists. Transfer ownership first."
  • Someone without a password ("Your account has no password. Ask the community team to delete it."). Create a password with Forgot password? on the sign-in screen and request again, or ask the community team, who handles it for you (see Handle an erasure request).

The effective date

The deletion happens on the effective date, which is the later of:

  • 30 days after the request, the period to change your mind; and
  • the end of the period already paid, if you have a subscription.
SituationEffective date
No subscription, request on November 1December 1 (30 days)
Monthly subscription paid until November 15December 1 (the 30 days come last)
Yearly subscription paid until March 10March 10 (the end of the paid period comes last)

Until the effective date

With paid access. You keep signing in and using what you paid for until the effective date. At the top of the app, a banner says "Your account is scheduled to be deleted on … Your access continues until then.", with the Cancel deletion and Details buttons (the latter opens My Account › Privacy). There, the card shows "Deletion scheduled for …", the end date of the paid period when it pushed the deletion, and the Cancel the deletion button.

Without paid access. The account is deactivated at once: open sessions end and, when you try to sign in, you see the Account deletion scheduled screen: "This account is scheduled to be deleted on … Until then, you cannot sign in.", with Cancel deletion and sign in and Back.

In both cases, from the request on:

  • Subscriptions stop renewing. They run to the end of the period already paid and are not charged again, with no refund for the current period. See Subscription management.
  • You disappear from the member directory, mentions, the ranking and member counts.
  • E-mails stop, except those about the deletion itself. If you have paid access, billing and access e-mails also continue (such as the receipt and the notice that access ended); campaigns, digests, automations and community notices no longer arrive.
  • AI assistant connections and API keys you created in this community are turned off.

The e-mail

Right after the request you get the e-mail "Deletion of your account in … scheduled for …", with the effective date, what happens on deletion and the Cancel the deletion button. Anyone with paid access also reads until when it lasts and that the subscription will not renew.

Changing your mind

Until the effective date, you can cancel in one of these ways:

  • with the Cancel the deletion button in the e-mail, which opens the Cancel the account deletion page and cancels at once ("You canceled the deletion"). If the link no longer works, the same page asks for your e-mail and password;
  • on the sign-in screen: with your e-mail and password, Account deletion scheduled appears, and Cancel deletion and sign in cancels the deletion and signs you in;
  • with paid access, with Cancel deletion on the banner at the top of the app or Cancel the deletion in My Account › Privacy.

Everything goes back to how it was, including the subscriptions the request had canceled: they renew again. AI assistant connections and API keys turned off by the request do not come back on their own: create again the ones you use.

On the effective date

Once the effective date has passed, the account is deleted in this community by the platform's routine:

  • The profile is anonymized. Name, e-mail, phone, document, photo, cover, bio, links, sign-up fields and preferences go.
  • What you published stays, without you. Posts, comments and messages remain where they are, signed "Removed member", with no name or photo, so other people's conversations have no holes.
  • What is only yours is erased: certificates, identified survey answers, form answers, saved cards and the files you uploaded that are not in a post.
  • Orders, payments and invoices stay, unlinked from your name, because the law requires financial records to be kept.
  • You get the e-mail "Your account in … was deleted".

The law may require some data to be kept for a while, such as the name, e-mail and document of buyers. They stay in a sealed copy, separate from the community, that only Memberfy can open, and only when the law requires it.

There is no undo after the effective date. The same e-mail can create a new account in the community, if sign-up is open, but it starts from scratch and inherits nothing from the deleted account.

Who can

Anyone in the community, over their own account: member, moderator, finance and admin. The owner, only after transferring the ownership.

Step by step

Role: anyone, over their own account.

  1. Open My Account › Privacy and, in the Delete my account card, click Delete my account.
  2. Enter your password and, if you want, give the reason in "Why are you leaving? (optional)". Confirm with Delete my account.
  3. Check the effective date on the card ("Deletion scheduled for …") and in the e-mail "Deletion of your account in … scheduled for …".
  4. If you change your mind before the date, click Cancel the deletion in the e-mail or on the card, Cancel deletion on the banner at the top, or Cancel deletion and sign in on the sign-in screen.

Frequently asked questions

Will I be refunded for the period I paid? No. The subscription runs to the end of the period already paid, with no refund, and you keep the access until then.

Why is my date later than 30 days? Because you still have paid access: the deletion waits for it to end so you do not lose what you paid for.

Does deleting here delete my account in other communities? No. Each community has its own account; request it in each one.

What is the difference between leaving the community and deleting the account? Leaving (or being removed) takes you out of the community but keeps the profile. Deleting erases your data and takes your name off what stays.

I lost the e-mail with the link. How do I cancel? Sign in with your e-mail and password before the effective date and click Cancel deletion and sign in.

Can the community refuse my request? No. The request does not go through approval.

Through the assistant

get_my_account_deletion shows whether there is a request and the effective date. delete_my_account requests the deletion: the assistant shows a summary of what happens and asks for confirmation, with your password. Requesting the deletion disconnects the assistant: the AI assistant connections in this community are turned off, including the one that made the request. To cancel, use the e-mail link, the app or cancel_my_account_deletion from a new connection, which also asks for confirmation.

In the API

  • GET /api/privacy/erasure reads your pending request in this community (null without one). See getMyErasure.
  • POST /api/privacy/erasure requests the deletion, with password and an optional reason (up to 1,000 characters). It returns scheduledAt (the effective date) and paidUntil (the end of the paid period, when it pushed the date). Wrong password: 400 on password; the owner: 400 erasure.ownerBlocked; already requested: 200 with the existing request. See requestMyErasure.
  • DELETE /api/privacy/erasure cancels with an open session. See cancelMyErasure.
  • POST /api/privacy/erasure/cancel cancels without a session, with the token from the e-mail link or with email and password (for example [email protected]). See cancelErasureByLink.
  • Without paid access, sign-in answers 403 with code: ERASURE_SCHEDULED, the date in data.erasureScheduledAt and cancelable.

Can I keep a copy of my data first? Yes. In My Account › Privacy, Download my data builds a ZIP file with what the community keeps about you. Request it before deleting the account. See Download your data.
