Who is here and team editing
The faces at the top of each screen show who else is there; in the editors, the "is also editing" and "saved changes" notices, and the "Someone else saved before you" window, which keeps one save from wiping out another person's without warning.
When two people on the team work in the same community at the same time, Memberfy shows who is where and makes sure nobody loses work. There are three parts:
- Who is here: the faces of who else is on the screen, at the top of it.
- Editing notices: in an editor, who else is editing and when someone saved.
- Version check: when you save over a newer version, you choose which one stays.
Who is here
In the header of each screen, on the right, you see the faces of the other people who are in that area or item right now: the home page, Members, Campaigns, Workflows, Monetization, Settings, a space, an event, a course, a post.
- Up to 4 faces show; the rest become +N. Hover (or move the keyboard focus to) a face to see the name.
- You never appear in your own list. With nobody else on the screen, nothing shows.
- Someone connected but idle for 30 seconds has a faded face (away). It goes back to normal as soon as they interact again.
- Someone editing the item carries a pencil on the corner of the face.
- Editors' privacy: on a space or item page (an event, a course, a post), someone who is only reading sees the faces, active or faded, but not who is editing (no pencil, no notice) nor the time of the last activity. Those signals only show to people editing the same item and on the team screens.
- A person leaves the list when they close the tab or go to another screen.
Each screen only shows who can be there: Members, Campaigns and Workflows only gather the team (owner, admin, moderator and finance); Analytics, Dashboard and Settings, only owner and admin; Monetization, owner, admin and finance. In a space or item, it shows whoever can open it. See Roles and permissions.
Chat status and blocks
Presence follows the chat choices:
- Someone who turned off Available to chat does not appear to others (nor counts in the +N), but still sees who is on the screen. The exception is editing: someone editing an item appears to the other people editing the same item, so nobody works blind. Someone just reading the page is not told.
- A block in the chat hides the two people from each other, both ways.
- With the community chat turned off, no faces appear, not even to the team. Only people editing the same item still see each other (is also editing), and the saved changes notice and the version check still apply.
Notices in the editors
The editors with these notices are: event, campaign, library e-mail (and each of its language versions), default e-mails, workflow, course (with modules and lessons), form, survey, certificate template and the community Settings with its cards, including SMS and WhatsApp, chat, notifications, credits, business information and payout settings.
With the editor open, these can show right above the form:
| Notice | When | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Someone is also editing (or Someone and N more people are also editing) | Another team member opened the same item to edit | Agree on who changes what, so one save does not undo the other |
| Someone saved changes. Yours stay here until you reload. | Another person saved the item while you were in it | Reload shows the saved version; the × closes the notice and keeps what you are writing |
Your changes do not disappear with the notice: they stay on the screen until you click Reload. In Settings, Reload reloads the page.
Someone else saved before you
If you save an item that changed since you opened it, nothing is written right away, and the Someone else saved before you window opens with two ways out:
- See the saved version: your unsaved changes are discarded and the screen shows what is saved now.
- Keep mine: your changes are saved over the other person's, on purpose.
Closing the window goes back to editing without saving. Nothing is overwritten unless you choose.
Example
Ana and Bruno open the same campaign. Both see each other's face, with the pencil, at the top of the screen, and the notice Ana is also editing shows for Bruno. Ana changes the subject and saves; Bruno gets Ana saved changes and can reload. If he does not reload and saves anyway, Someone else saved before you opens: he picks See the saved version to start from the new subject, or Keep mine to write his version.
For developers
The editors' saves accept the version you read and answer 409 when another save came first; sending the version is optional, and without it the save goes as always. Presence and the save notice arrive over the WebSocket. See Responses and errors and Realtime.
